Shoes without socks | Don’t even think about it!

The next time you think about wearing your favourite pair of shoes without socks, you might want to think again! Wearing shoes without socks can be detrimental to your health as it can lead to fungal infection. Hence, going around sans-socks is a nasty habit that must say goodbye to.

Scroll down to learn why you should never wear shoes without socks.

Smell! Smell! Smell!

Spending a day wearing shoes without socks can lead to a smelly disaster. Not only will you have sweaty and stinky feet, but it will be hard to get rid of odour from your shoes. Using talcum powder, as some people may recommend, won’t help resolve the issue. This is because powder can create a mess inside your shoes or even on the floor when you walk. Secondly, the powder won’t last long as it wears off quickly, hence, taking you back to square one. In short, don’t use enormous amounts of powder to avoid smelly feet.

Athlete’s Foot

The rise in the fashion of boat shoes and flip-flops have encouraged people to go sock-free. However, wearing shoes without socks do not only lead to smelly feet, but it can also lead to serious health consequences.

If you have the habit of wearing shoes without socks regularly, it can increase the risk of the development of severe foot conditions like, athlete’s foot.  Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection that arises due to sweaty feet, which results in excess moisture.

In fact, many shoes have leather uppers but they are lined in synthetic material, which is not breathable. This means that moisture, heat, and bacteria can get trapped inside the shoe.

To prevent fungal infection, along with ingrown toenails and bunions,  experts suggest spraying your shoes with an antiperspirant in the morning and placing dry tea bags inside them overnight, which will help absorb any excess moisture in your shoes. After you come home sockless, wash your feet thoroughly and dry them. After that, let your shoes dry off for 48 hours before you wear them again.

Foot Woes

We are all guilty of roaming around sockless from time to time. Certain types of shoes that do not require wearing socks, such as a pointed toe or slip-on shoes, can result in foot woes. These types of shoes rub against our heels and toes, resulting in ingrown toenails and bunions.

Why Are Socks Important?

If you want to keep your feet healthy, you must wear socks. Socks help absorb moisture and prevent rubbing of shoes on them barefoot. They act as a cushion to help protect your feet and keep them warm. During winter, socks can be useful in preventing cold feet and frostbite. Compression stockings are types of socks that are useful in improving circulation and prevention of leg fatigue.

Going sockless can also result in conditions such as blisters and sores on your foot. Hence, it is best to wear socks rather than go through the complications that arise from choosing to skip socks.
